Asset Impact Parameters
Chris Craggs - Chairman at MCFT
Our Mission & Outcomes
We are building a standardised model for assessing asset failure impacts. Our objective is to evaluate a variety of impact parameters to create a normalised quantifiable score for the impact of a specific asset or system.
Why This Matters
The construction, facilities management and housing sectors face a major challenge: BIM asset data is often used in commissioning and construction phases but lacks adoption in the building’s operational phase.
Consequently, the data is often seen as mere record-keeping and special data rather than a tool for driving financial, operational, and safety improvements.
Lack of asset impact evaluation can lead to poor asset maintenance, which subsequently can lead to real-world consequences:
Think hospital HVAC failures causing cancelled operations, financial losses, and even patient risk.
Other industries, such as aerospace and manufacturing, already use advanced asset performance and impact evaluation methods. It’s time for the built environment sector to catch up and bring operational asset information directly into asset and systems.

Our workstream focuses on:
- Defining key metrics for asset performance and failure impact assessment.
- Developing real-world case studies to highlight financial, safety, and sustainability risks.
- Collaborating with industry experts to refine best practices, such as BOWTIE risk assessment.

Who We Need
We are looking for professionals who are passionate about improving digital asset management in the built environment, including:
- Facilities managers & asset owners
- Digital transformation & BIM specialists
- Construction specialists, consultants and parties engaged with soft-landings
- Regulatory & compliance experts
- Data analysis & technology providers
